Newark Residents Raise Over $50,000 For Six Newark College Students.
From GoFundMe fundraiser
From the GoFundMe page:
"In 2020, the HBCU Scholarship Ride was established to financially assist students from Newark, NJ, in realizing their aspirations of attending Howard University. In acknowledging the unique challenges that these students face, the HBCU Scholarship Ride bridges the gap between a deserving student’s desire and their ability to pay.
The official ride window is from Friday, August 26th – Sunday, August 28th. There will be a finish line celebration on “The Yard” of Howard University Sunday, August 28th. Two years ago, at the height of the Coronavirus pandemic in August of 2020, four riders made the journey from Newark, NJ, to Howard University, raising over 6,500 dollars for a deserving student. Last year in 2021, 10 riders set the goal at 25k. For two students, Janae Tucker and Kyle Washington, we ended up raising 38k and were able to provide money to a total of 5 students, 10k a piece for Janae and Kyle, and 5k to 3 other students.
This year, we have 15 riders and set the bar higher to raise 50k for 6 Newark Students: Chindindu Okafor Howard U, Asatta Washington Howard U, EnZiyah Wilkes NCA&T, Mia Finney Morgan State, Quinton Smith UMES, and Jaelen Clyburn Howard University."
Congratulations to Hassan Abdussabur, the team of Newark residents and community organizations who made this scholarship opportunity for our youth possible! You can still donate to support this wonderful fundraiser by clicking here.
