Heartbreaking Loss: Community Mourns Young Sisters in Newark Fire

Our Newark community is grieving the devastating loss of two precious young sisters, ages 6 and 8, who tragically passed away in a late-night fire at their South Ward home on Eckert Avenue. The family, who had sought a new life in America from Ecuador just two years ago, now faces an unimaginable loss. The Red Cross has stepped in to support 15 residents from seven families who were displaced by the fire, with outreach continuing to others affected by this tragedy. As the Essex County Prosecutor's Office investigates the cause, our thoughts are with the bereaved family and all those impacted by this heartbreaking event.
